Beautiful Perthshire

Perthshire is a great place to visit, and it is especially popular for its abundance of walking trails. You can choose anything from 1 mile to 100 miles and see many popular attractions along the way. There are lochs and castles galore, as well as a beautiful and tranquil landscape that stretches out before you in every direction.

One of the longest trails is that of Crianlarich. The trail is 100 miles long and it starts just north of Glasgow and ends at Fort William. While on the trail you will find the opportunity to climb several mountains which are over 3000 feet high. Ben More, at 3800 feet, is one of the most popular.

If you are prefer something a bit gentler, most of the walks are between 1 and 16 miles long and the pace is leisurely. You could also while away time playing golf, riding horses or canoeing. You could also take a trip to the falls of Dochart - a famous and amazingly picturesque waterfall.

Most of the trails start or end at some of the charming, rustic villages that dot Perthshire. Here you will find old buildings of historical interest. There are also numerous water crossings, rivers, and very old and enchanting forests.

A popular trail is the trail of two distilleries - simply named after the two old distilleries you will have the chance to visit along the way. The Edradour distillery is the smallest in Scotland, and the Blair Athol distillery is one of the oldest. Both will allow you to sample some of their wares and the trail is altogether pleasant with a small waterfall and a viewpoint.

Why not take some time to walk the wonderful hills, forests and mountains of Perthshire? You may find its beauty captivating; more than you thought possible.
